Today I have some quick tips for you on how to reduce neck pain and shoulder pain.
One of the first things that I recommend is to sleep on a relatively flat pillow; or one of those contour pillows that concave, that has the neck support. What that does is put your spine and neck in an aligned position all night long so that you are releasing the tension that is created when you are sleeping in a unnatural position that is not in alignment. So that’s the first tip.
Secondly, I recommend sitting up and standing up straight, with your shoulders back and down. What that does is put your neck and spine in alignment and releases the tension that you are creating. A lot of people don’t realize that the stress and worry that they are feeling all the time, and the pain they are feeling shows up in bad posture and hunched shoulders. We have to be mindful all day long and pay attention to our posture, how we’re standing and how we’re sitting. It also helps if you sit towards the front of your seat so that you are not lying back and you have your shoulders back and down.
Third, a good thing to do to take care of the pain that you are feeling in your neck and shoulders is to see a massage therapist once a week. It may seem to you like an unnecessary expense, but believe me, it will go a long way to taking care of the pain that you’re feeling in your neck and shoulder area. What massage does is reduces inflammation, it increases blood flow and it releases all the tension in the muscles and the tendons and ligaments so that you are now relaxed and you have released a lot of the pain that you’re feeling in your neck and shoulder area.
You’ve got your phone here; you can see where I’m going with this. You’re going to be hunched and you’re going to be feeling that tension again in your neck and your shoulder region. So when you are on your computer, your laptop, your hand held, whatever it is that you are viewing, try to either raise your seat or raise your desk so that you are in a more natural position so that you can alleviate the stress that you are putting on your shoulders and your neck.
So there are my four quick tips for releasing the pain and tension that you have in your shoulder and neck area.
