After dinner last night, I sat down with my daughter and watched the last 20 minutes of Dr Seuss’ The Lorax. I’ve seen parts of the movie before, but this time I was caught and moved by the song, “Let it Grow” near the end.  The song is about sowing seeds and making a positive difference on earth.  The song also points out that each and everyone of us, young or old, can make a positive impact.
The lyrics and my thoughts are as follows…

You don’t know me but name’s Sai

I’m just the O’Hare delivery guy
But it seems like trees might be worth a try

So I say let it grow

Change and growth in a positive direction start with actions like Sai’s. He was threatened with the loss of his job if he didn’t take the side of the mayor of Thneedville, Aloysius O’Hare, who did not want Ted to plant a seed for fear it would ruin his business. However, Sai stepped out, he made a bold decision and chose new possibilities and a hope for positive change.
Are you a Sai who can make a difference? Do you feel that you are just an average person and no one special. Do you think, who am I, what can I do, how can I possibly make a difference?
You step out, you take action and you make a difference by sowing one seed at a time and you keep on sowing.
Well, what does that mean, what are seeds? Seeds are words and actions and thoughts, they can be positive and reap positive results or they can be negative and reap negative results.
What a difference you and I could make if we looked for ways to make our earth better and find ways to be of value to someone every day.

My name is Dan, and my name’s Rose

Our son Wesley kind of glows
And that’s not good so we suppose

We should let it grow

Disgust and frustration with the way things are around you that you would like to see changed, can be a catalyst that causes you to take action and start making a valuable difference in other people’s lives.
Your child may not glow, hopefully 🙂 , but I’m willing to bet that there is an annoyance or frustration in your life that if you took a step forward in action, no matter how small, you could make a tremendous difference!

Let it grow

Let it grow
You can’t reap what you don’t sow
Plant a seed inside the earth
Just one way to know it’s worth
Let’s celebrate the world’s rebirth

We say let it grow

Galations 6:7 says,Do not be deceived, God is not mocked; for whatever a man sows, that he will also reap.”
If we don’t sow anything positive or of value, we will never see anything positive or of much value in our own lives.  When we help others to grow and bring value into others lives, we will discover a transformation in our own.

My name’s Marie and I am 3
I would really like to see a tree
La la la la la lee

I say let it grow

Most children start out full of hope and possibilities and they soak up what they see around them. If we teach our children from a young age that they can make a difference and help them discover and develop their talents and lead by example, they could do astounding things to create positive change in our world and for others.

I’m granny Norma, I’m old and I got grey hair,
but I remember when trees were everywhere.
And no one had to pay for air,

so I say let it grow!

Do you think it is to late for you to make a difference? Are you still breathing? Yes? Then it’s not to late.  You have years of experience, wisdom and talents that you can use to help or teach others.  Often, when you start looking, numerous opportunities present themselves to give value to others and make a difference.

Let it grow
Let it grow
Like it did so long ago
Maybe it’s just one tiny seed
But it’s all we really need
It’s time to change the life we lead

Time to let it grow

Each of us are unique and God gave each and everyone of us different talents.  The more that we sow into our own growth and development of our God given talents, the more that we can be of value to others. When we don’t invest in growing ourselves, we are less able to make a positive impact for others.

My name’s O’Hare
I’m one of you
I live here in Thneedville too
The things you say just might be true
It could be time to start anew
And maybe change my point of view
Nah! I say let it die
Let it die, let it die
Let it shrivel up and die
Come on, who’s with me huh?

You greedy dirt bag!

Sadly, we all know people, corporations, politicians 🙂 , like O’Hare. And we might be tempted to feel like there is little we can do. Not so! Just sow the seed. A tiny seed can cause a ripple in the water that grows and grows and can make a huge impact.
Galations 6:9 says, “And let us not grow weary while doing good, for in due season we shall reap if we do not lose heart.”

Let it grow
Let it grow
Let the love inside ya show
Plant a seed inside the earth
Just one way to know it’s worth

Let’s celebrate the world’s rebirth

Galations 6:10 says, “Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all…”

We say let it grow

Let it grow
Let it grow
You can’t reap what you don’t sow
It’s just one tiny seed
But it’s all we really need
It’s time to banish all your greed
Imagine Thneedville flowered and treed
Let this be our solemn creed

We say let it grow

So I plead,
“Imagine the earth flowered and treed,
because each of us sows a seed.
We give of ourselves to fill a need,
we teach, we guide, we bandage knees.
When we love each other in word and deed,
how can we possibly help but succeed?
We could change the world with staggering speed,
if each of us would sow a seed.”

 And one final parting thought…
“UNLESS someone like YOU cares a whole awful lot,
NOTHING is going to get better. It’s NOT…”
